Insurance Premium Discounts

With the spread of COVID-19 and resulting statewide stay-at-home orders, people are working and driving less than ever before. Recent data released from California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System indicates a 43% drop in highway collisions statewide between March and April as compared to last year, and an 84% drop in fatal accidents. As a result, the risk of being involved in an auto accident has dropped substantially.

Policyholders got some good news on April 13, 2020 when the state of California ordered insurance companies to offer discounts on premiums for the months of March, April, and possibly May. While the average deal was a 15% reduction in premiums for April and May, some companies have offered more, others less. The CFA has released a report grading offers from the nation’s largest insurance companies (to see where your provider stacks up in the report, click here).
